VECTOR LIFESTYLE
PHOTOGRAPHY
My Role: Project Lead, Art Direction, Retouching
Photographers: Todd Tankersley, John Lee
Agency Partners: Character SF, XYZ Graphics
Task: Create a family of assets for a new product, with the challenge of looking like an existing one. Vector might look like just a new Cozmo, but in fact, it was an entirely new product experience marketed to an entirely different target audience. On top of that, packaging deadlines required the first group of images to be produced before we had the final product to shoot.
Solution: Using a much more neutral pallet, and avoiding bright colors helped separate the aesthetic from Cozmo, and address the older audience we were targeting. And for the early assets, I worked with the animation team to create a custom 3D Maya model of the robot to supply our post-production shop so they could composite a photo-real version of Vector into the scene.
