ANKI OVERDRIVE
LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY

My Role: Project Lead, Art Direction, Retouching

Photographer: Charles Gullung

Agency Partner: Cinco Design

Task: When a game takes place both in the physical and the virtual, how do you get credit for both in a single image? Anki OVERDRIVE uses real cars on real tracks to create a virtual battleground, and the fun comes in how the two are seamlessly merged. We needed to find a way to show both while conveying the joy that comes during gameplay.

Solution: I worked with the product design teams to leverage the 3D models that had been created for the in-app art, and supply them to our agency to morph onto the lifestyle photography as virtual holograms. This allowed them to be rooted in the actual game experience, but with a style that made it obvious what in the image was real and what was virtual.
